We begin by examining the law in relation to the use of wild plants and trees.

We will use our extensive woodland for you to learn to identify key species of commonly occurring British trees and the properties and bushcraft uses of those species. This will include the softness, hardness, flexibility and strength of different woods and hence their suitability for different bushcraft skills.

We will also look at food resources that can be sourced from commonly occurring British trees and any possible confusion species.

In the afternoon we will explore the primitive art of making cords from naturally occurring fibre and demonstrate the parts of certain key plants or trees that can provide fibres suitable for making strong cordage. This will include the extraction and processing of the fibres from some of these species.

You will have the opportunity to construct a length of 2 ply cordage from some of these natural materials which you will take away with you.
