Lake District 10 Peak Challenge

This is a tough walk and participants should be aware that they should train before the event, specifically in hilly terrain. The distance is about 26km (16 Miles) with a total ascent of 1,746 metres (5,728 feet).

The circular high ground walk takes in 10 summits in the Lake District’s spectacular southern fells and includes England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. After an early morning start, we will climb:

  • Rossett Pike
  • Allen Crags
  • Lingmell
  • Scafell Pike
  • Broad Crag
  • Ill Crag
  • Great End
  • Esk Pike
  • Bowfell North Top
  • Bowfell

The seven highlighted in bold are are included in the list known as ‘The Wainwrights’ and featured in the famous ‘Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells’ by the author, the late Alfred Wainwright. The summits included in this walk all feature in ‘Book 4 – The Southern Fells’.

The challenge will be led by at least one qualified mountain leader but will depend on the number of participants. The ratio of leaders to walkers will be a maximum of 1:6. All of our mountain leaders are qualified in outdoor first aid and are fully insured.

Bowfell from Langdale

Transport to and from the start / finish point in the Langdale valley will be the responsibility of the participants as will accommodation and food and drinks for the duration of the challenge. A full kit list will be provided once the number of participants has been finalised.

All participants will be required to complete a booking form which will include a medical questionnaire and a declaration that they are in good physical condition and have no known conditions that would make participation difficult.

There will need to be a minimum of 6 participants for the event to take place and a maximum of 18.
